Hike along the Moselle Hiking Trail from Bernkastel-Kues to Kloster Machern

news news
7.5 mi / 12 km, walking time about 2.5 hours

This hiking route begins at the birthplace of Nicholas of Cusa; from there you will reach the medieval marketplace and the beautiful half-timber houses which surround it. Continue on toward the Kallenfelsstrasse. Right from the start, your stamina will be put to the test… You’ll ascend through the forest along the Kallenfels creek, cross it to the left, and march on until you have reached the meadows and the “Maria Zill”. From there, above the village of Graach, you will have a stunning view of the Moselle Valley. Walk on along the signposted paths toward Zeltingen-Rachtig. You’ll be descending through the famous vineyard site “Zeltinger Himmelreich,” whose wines are available in many of the vintner’s taverns in town. Crossing the bridge will take you to Kloster Machern brewery, where a cool beer will be waiting for you.

From Kloster Machern, you’ll now be able to comfortably return to Bernkastel-Kues by boat. And there’ll be more than enough refreshing drinks on board. The departure times from Kloster Machern back to Bernkastel-Kues are 10:55 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 2:25 p.m., 3:25 p.m., and 5:25 p.m. (May, June weekdays on request). The boat trip from Kloster Machern to Bernkastel-Kues takes 45 minutes
