This hiking route takes you from Bullay via the Mont Royal fortress to Trarbach. The tour starts in Bullay, which is easily accessible by train. If you set off at around 9.00 a.m., this is enough time to reach the boat back at a moderate pace. From the railway station, turn right towards the Moselle bridge. Once you have crossed the bridge, follow a path directly behind it that leads up into the forest. There you will reach a viewing tower on the "Prinzenkopf" from where you can enjoy marvellous views of the Moselle loops. Follow the path past the cemetery of honour straight ahead through the forest and along the vineyards until you reach Reil. Here you have the opportunity to rest with a glass of wine or Federweißer and a small snack (onion tart). If you get "stuck" at one of the many wine taverns, that's no problem: at 5.45 p.m., a boat will take you back to Bullay.
Now you can choose whether you simply continue along the Moselle to Traben-Trarbach or whether you prefer a mountain stage through the forest. Via Reil, the path winds its way along the vineyards once you have passed the Heißer Stein settlement above and you enter the forest again. You cross the Burger Bach and Birkensteinchesbach streams around the Burgberg and emerge from the forest again in Kövenig. You then pass the ruins of the French fortress Mont Royal, which was built in the 17th century, and the holiday resort of the same name. Below you now lies Traben, through which you cross the Moselle bridge to Trarbach. The boat back to Alf leaves Trarbach at 5.00 p.m., arriving at 6.30 p.m.
Please note that the boat tours suggested here are offered daily except Mondays and Fridays until mid-October.
