Start in the morning at approx. 9 a.m. in Bullay. It is easy to get there by bus and train. If you have the Moselle behind you, look to the left-hand mountain, that's where you have to go up. It is a slightly longer but bearable climb up to "Onkel Toms Hütte", where you can take a rest if necessary. Follow the signs to Beilstein, the "Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle". The path leads you past streams and through forests, which are pleasantly cool in summer. Depending on time and mood, you can either follow the direct route or take a look at Senheim from above. Above Beilstein is Metternich Castle, a medieval castle ruin that offers a very interesting stopover.
If you feel hungry after the long hike, there are numerous places to stop for refreshments in Beilstein, e.g. in the "Klostercafe" next to the Carmelite church or in the "Alte Stadtmauer" on the Moselle. The boat back to Bullay departs from the yellow jetty on the Moselle at 3.50 p.m. You will be back in Bullay at 5.35 p.m. During the return journey you can relax your feet, enjoy a glass of wine and look back at the whole route you have travelled from the Moselle. The boat sails daily from 23 July to 25 October except Mondays, otherwise on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays during the season. Tickets are available on site or directly on the boat.
